While the mediums and technologies associated with the visual communication industry evolve daily, the mission of the profession remains the same: Communicating Visually. Kicking off it’s 4th year, TradeCraft will open with a reception on Thursday, March 12, in the Bill Ford Gallery in the 2D Design Building of the WKCTC Paducah School of Art & Design, located at 905 Harrison Street, Paducah, KY, 42001. The opening reception will start at 5 p.m. and run to 6:30 p.m. This year, our special feature is “take a print.” We will have 1 wall of the gallery covered in prints that all are invited to take down and take home with them! “Everyone on exhibit in this show is either a graduate of the Visual Communication program, or took the classes they needed to upskill and kick-start a career,” said exhibit organizer and artist Drew Johnson. Johnson knew a lot of commercial artists have a “side-hustle” or passion projects they do separate from the daily grind. “I have a job working in the industry, but on my own time, I have always drawn and painted. Over the years that turned into relief printmaking. So, I have all these large pieces I have created just hanging out around my house.” While talking with others, Johnson discovered that he wasn’t the only one with art collecting dust at home. “Several of the people I knew from the Visual Communication program have branched out and built on their skills. Adam Harper went through the program, then became a tattoo artist, but he also sells prints and designs special ‘ball cards’. Andrew Evitts & his daughter work professionally as screen printers, but they also love working on trash art. The list goes on and on.” “Of course, there are many fantastic graphic artists that have gone through our program, but we also have many that are accomplished in other digital media, like Audio/Video and animation so we want them included,” said Emily Esau, WKCTC Paducah School of Art & Design Visual Communication Program Coordinator. So started the journey of compiling a multimedia showcase. The featured artists include Rachel (Morgan) Hall, Andrew Evitts, Abi Evitts, Drew Johnson, Morgan Siebert, Nathan Lawson, Kelley Johnson, Emily Esau, Adam Harper, Randall Griggs, Shelby Preklas, Kirsten Meadows, Dustin Clark, Seth Hawkins and Sam Coram!
